Fire safety awareness during this warm dry weather

The recent spell of warm, dry weather has left grass, hedgerows and woodland particularly vulnerable to fire. Even a small spark can cause a fire to spread quickly.

Please help to keep our parish safe by following this simple advice:

  • Do not discard cigarettes, matches or smoking materials onto the ground. Ensure they are fully extinguished before disposing of them.
  • Take extra care when using barbecues. Keep them well away from dry grass, hedges, fences and buildings and never leave them unattended.
  • Only use disposable barbecues in authorised locations and allow them to cool completely before disposal.
  • Avoid lighting bonfires during dry or windy weather. If you do have a bonfire, keep it small, well away from vegetation and property, and supervise it at all times.
  • Please take your litter home or use the bins provided. Glass bottles and reflective materials can contribute to fires in hot weather.

If you discover a grass or woodland fire, move to a safe place and call 999 immediately.

By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help to protect our homes, countryside and wildlife during these dry conditions.
